Golden Glow of Late Summer

August has its own unique light. Gold and hazy, honey-colored light that makes us appreciate the last days of summer. Metlox Sculptured Zinnia dishes are August dishes. The raised flowers in golds and oranges with beautiful sage green leaves on a cream background are perfect for a late summer table setting.

Metlox Sculptured Zinnia was manufactured in Manhattan Beach, California, from 1964 to 1979. Metlox also created another of my favorite patterns, Sculptured Daisy, which is such a cheerful and sunny design. You can view it here: In a world full of roses, be a daisy!
The plate arrangement was straightforward: a rattan placemat, a dinner plate, an appetizer plate, and a napkin in a rattan napkin ring on a sage tablecloth. Everyday cutlery, Mikasa Harmony, and a Noritake Breeze iced tea glass complete the setting. I really enjoy the 60s/70s vibe in the colorful daisies on the napkin. I purchased them on Etsy, and there were only 5. I've been searching for matching ones, but they don't have any identifying marks. Google Photo and several AI engines have been unable to identify the manufacturer.

A burlap-ish runner down the middle of the table anchored the centerpiece, with my prized Marigold soup tureen from Fiesta, and two pots of faux zinnias. As I was pulling dishes out to set the table, I pulled out several pieces of Fiesta to layer in, and none of it was working for me other than the tureen.
I bought this set at an auction sale, and it came with coffee cups, saucers, a cream and sugar set, and salt and pepper shakers. The shape of the salt and pepper shakers is so 1960s! You can see the coffee cups in this post: Zinnias, zinnias, zinnias!

Labor Day is just about here, and fall will arrive shortly. As Nat King Cole famously sang:
"Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer
Dust off the sun and moon and sing a song of cheer!"
Wishing you a joyful August!
