Playing with fall colors

Several years ago hubby and I traveled to Barcelona, Spain and I bought four brilliantly colored bowls. When ever we travel, I always check out ceramics and dish stores. They've been in the cabinet since then, just waiting for the perfect table setting. The inside of the bowls are orange, chartreuse and red and the outsides are splashes of those colors plus greens and blues. The colors are very similar to Fiesta colors - and all of my fall color plates are already in the cabinets.

Friend, Kissy was visiting this weekend for an American Diabetes bike ride (we rode 32.8 miles!) and we decided to play with dishes. Kissy also collects Fiesta and loves to help design the perfect table. Out came what are now known as "the Barcelona bowls." Next we went to the linens and pulled out several fall patterns, we loved the fall striped cloth - the colors were in the bowls, but the stripes were too busy! While in India I was given a beautiful silk shawl in sunshine yellow and a sunny orange -- sitting right next the tablecloth -- and a table was born!

The "Barcelona bowls" have a flat bottom and when we built the plate stack you couldn't see the beautiful colors on the sides of the bowl. Under each one we used upside down berry bowls to give them a bit of lift.
The plate stack is a dark brown rattan charger, with either a Fiesta Paprika or Jade plate on top. Next, a Fiest square plate in Lemongrass, Paprika, Marigold or Tangerine. I love how the square plates leave a bit of the under plate showing, it is a great shape! A berry bowl for lift and the Barcelona bowl.
The napkins came from Etsy, they are an olive green with oranges and lemons with tiny white flowers -- a perfect match for the dishes. I've used the napkin rings a couple of times, chartreuse and orange flowers, there is also a periwinkle blue one that I did not use. I love these colors together! Completing the plate stack is Treble Clef flatware and the tortoise print stemless wine glasses.

It was actually the flowers in the centerpiece - that made the table, a variety of mums and alstroemeria from Trader Joe's in a Bauer Moroccan Blue vase to provide height. On either side are little light up ceramics I picked up at At Home and fall decorated lanterns from the Dollar Store. Finally, two cute little mushrooms from Hobby Lobby and the table was complete!

I love the smell of mums, they remind of fall, so crisp! This was a fun table to put together - we seemed to pull all of the right dish colors and it was so easy, so pretty. I love it when this kind of table happens!

Fall is just beginning, so many more dishes to set tables with, so many more colors to put together and then Halloween! I can't wait! Stay tuned for more tables!
